This week we would like you all to meet our Director of Supply Chain : Ivy Kim

What do you do at Tilt Five?

My position requires me to be on duty day and night since I am heavily involved with managing the manufacturing facility overseas. During the day, I am busily working for US HQ, and my evenings require being on call with our Asia Pac suppliers daily. Sourcing raw components & materials to be produced in the factory into finished products for our customers
at the best price, while also juggling through all the unexpected supply chain loopholes. Not a single day is a repetition for me and requires me to constantly be ready for a surprise (not always the good ones!) and act upon it in the most efficient way possible.

Did you go to school? Self-taught? Is this your first role with a tech hardware company?

I graduated from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) and majored in Architecture. After years in design, I accepted some new opportunities and ended up in Supply Chain management. It is completely different but exciting in its own way!

A part of me is still heavily involved in design (when time allows). Designing buildings and homes, starting my own restaurant business, and even working in robotics and consumer electronics. I've worked in a lot of different industries in the Bay Area. Even though my transition has been quite different, there isnt a day that goes by, where I feel that my  past knowledge or experience has gone to waste.

What do you like about working at Tilt Five?

Similar to my background, Tilt Five allows me to be diverse. It also allows my creative side to come out. If I had to choose one word to explain Tilt Five’s culture, I would say “genuine.”

Where did you grow up? What were you doing before working at Tilt Five?

I grew up in Northern California my entire life. Loved my state, so decided to come back here and pursue my career after college. After years of working on clients’ projects, my ultimate goal was to one day design my own restaurant (from bottom up) and be able to flip (resell) the business within 3 years. Let’s just say it’s much easier to flip a house than a business (little did I know). Fortunately, I was given this opportunity and was able to achieve this goal within 3.5 years. Thats when I decided to jump into Supply Chain Management. Being able to build internal & external relationships and manage the bottom line (cash) for a company seemed to fit me quite well. I had been doing it all along just didn’t realize it!

What are the values that drive you?

What we believe filters down and inspires who we are and what we do. Think about what you believe in as it relates to your position and the work you do. I joined Tilt Five instead of a larger company that mass produces similar AR/VR products to the market because Tilt Five truly values their users. We don’t treat one customer as just a dollar sign. Everyone works incredibly hard to provide the ultimate satisfaction for every individual who wants the ultimate experience. The drive to show and prove to the world what our product is capable of is what keeps us going!

Your top 3 favorite games?

1. Everything Sonic! My childhood favorite game started with Sonic the Hedgehog

2. Temple Run

3. Angry Bird

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love bowling and have a passion for cooking, but the restaurant business probably gave that away!  If you shove me in a room with just some pieces of charcoal. I would have no problem keeping busy with drawing life-size murals. I prefer charcoal over any other art medium. My favorite piece is “The Creation of Adam” at 16ft length by 8ft high, which I had 24hrs to complete.
